Veronica's Other Side
With her background of community work and Occupational Therapy, specialising in Visual Stimulation and Sensory Integration with special needs children, Veronica’s artistic interest remains rooted in colour.
She is particularly occupied with the physical and psychological effects of colour on people. Veronica is currently investigating transparent and reflective materials and their role in creating innovative colour worlds.
Accessibility to her pieces and interactivity play a major role in her vision of future projects. Her “Play and See” & Dance & See- Reflections concepts centres on participation by the viewer, allowing him/her to create new personal colour illusions through the interaction and manipulation of shapes, reflecting media and distorting lenses. The resultant 3D effects can mimic the layering techniques of water colour and this will hopefully lead her towards new areas of spectator involvement both sensory and visual.
Recently she collaborated with artist Sarah Dewing and playwright Anni Rhodes to design and produce pantomime scenery to fulfil a commission for touring special needs schools in Surrey and Sussex with the aim of improving communication skills through interaction and participation in a visually stimulating and playful environment. She is currently working on an interactive colour layering installation piece called Dance and See – Reflections to be used at a primary school in East Sussex. It will also be part of the Hailsham Arts Festival 2009 as an installation art piece to be experienced and enjoyed by both adults and children.
Veronica’s main inspiration comes from colour artists Mark Rothko, Dan Flavin, Pipilotti Rist, Helio Oiticica and Olafur Elliason.
